Trekking Overview

The Shira route, starting at a higher elevation than the Lemosho route, offers a breathtaking ascent with diverse landscapes and impressive views. This 7-day trek combines scenic beauty with a challenging summit attempt, including acclimatization hikes and stunning vistas of Kilimanjaro’s peaks.

Trekking Itinerary
​
Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro (JRO) Airport - Moshi
​​​​​Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Attend a pre-climb briefing with your trekking company, complete a final gear check, and prepare for your trek.

Accommodation: Lodge/Hotel in Moshi​
Day 1: Machame Gate - Shira 2 Camp
​​​​​​Drive to Machame Gate (1-2 hours), complete park formalities, and begin trekking through the rainforest. Ascend through heath and moorland to reach Shira 2 Camp (3,850 meters) for overnight camping.

Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp – Tents

Day 2: Shira 2 Camp - Lava Tower and Descend to Barranco Camp
​​​​​​Hike to Lava Tower (4,600 meters) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 meters) via the Southern Circuit.

Day 3: Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp
​​​​​​​Climb the Barranco Wall, trek through valleys and ridges, and reach Karanga Camp (3,995 meters) for overnight camping.

Day 4: Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp
​​​​​​​Traverse through alpine desert terrain to arrive at Barafu Camp (4,600 meters). Prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 5: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then Descend to Mweka Camp
​​​​​​​​Begin your summit attempt around midnight. Reach Stella Point (5,685 meters) and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for overnight camping.

Day 6: Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate
​
​​​​​​​​Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha for a well-deserved meal and rest.

Deposit is 20% of the total booking amount.

Deposit can be paid either via a bank transfer or an online card payment.

A 5% fee is applicable on all card payments (payment gateway charges), this is non-refundable.

We offer bank accounts in 10 different currencies for bank transfer.

Once you make the advance payment you will receive a booking confirmation.

Balance Payment

Balance can be paid via bank transfer, online card payment, or with cash.

Bank payment can be done 15 days prior to the tour date (recommended 30 days prior).

Card Payment can be done 1 day prior to the tour date (recommended 7 days prior).
